What is a Nikah?

A Nikah is basically the wedding ceremony in Islam. It’s what makes the marriage official for Muslim couples.

How is Nikah performed?

Hey there! If you’re planning a Nikah, there are a few important things you’ll need to make it official. You’ll need a trained Muslim male (like an Imam) to conduct the ceremony, two Muslim male witnesses, a bride who is Muslim, Jewish, or Christian, and a Muslim groom. In some cultures, the bride might also have a Wali (guardian), but that’s optional.

No worries though—EZNikah has got you covered! We provide a trained Imam and two witnesses to make sure everything is set up perfectly for your Nikah. We’ll make sure the bride and groom are identifiable and that everyone is sane and at least 18 years old.

Here’s a quick rundown of what happens during the ceremony:

Marriage Sermon: The Imam kicks things off with a marriage sermon in any language you prefer.

Proposal (Ijab): One of you (usually the groom) will propose three times in front of the Imam and witnesses. For example, “I (groom) am making my Nikah with you (bride).”

Mahr (Marriage Gift): Both of you will decide the mahr, which is a gift from the husband to the wife, and when it’ll be paid—right away, later, or whenever the wife asks for it.

Conditions: Both of you can set any other conditions you want to include.

Acceptance (Qubul): Then, the other partner (usually the bride) will accept the proposal three times in front of the Imam and witnesses. For example, the bride might say, “I (bride) accept my Nikah with you (groom), including all conditions.”

EZNikah is here to make sure everything runs smoothly so you can focus on enjoying your special day. We’re excited to help you start this beautiful journey together!

Is an online Nikah valid?

Just to make it official, we checked with muslim scholars. They agreed that if all parties can’t be in the same space, as online Nikah is valid if the Imam and witnesses clearly identify both the bride and groom. The cool thing about EZNikah is that we make sure everyone is who they say they are and that they’re of age. We’ve got you covered.

The bride and groom may have any parties of their choice in their respective rooms during the Nikah ceremony video call. During registration, the bride and groom may also provide Gmail addresses of any guests they’d like to remotely join their Nikah ceremony video call.

What are the steps of the ceremony?

So, when it comes to tying the knot, here’s what you gotta know for a valid Nikah:

First up, you gotta have the marriage sermon from the Imam. It can be in any language.

Then, it’s all about the declarations. The groom, he’s gotta announce his ‘ijab’ – like, he’s offering himself to the bride. Picture him saying something like, ‘Hey, I’m making my Nikah with you!’ Simple, right?

Now, about that mahr, the marriage gift. The groom’s gotta state it clearly, and when it’ll be given to the bride – could be right away, or later, or whenever the wife asks for it. Gotta keep it fair and square.

Oh, and both of them can throw in any extra conditions they want, just to make sure everyone’s on the same page.

Last but not least, the bride’s gotta give her ‘qubul’, her acceptance. Just like, ‘Yeah, I’m in, let’s do this!’ All in front of the Imam and the witnesses.

And boom! That’s how you make it official, with love and all that good stuff.”
